Ten years ago 'The Blair Witch Project' created a new genre of horror movies, ones that look, feel and make you believe they're actually real.

Today, a new movie takes the helm and replaces Blair Witch, 'Paranormal Activity' has taken audiences to a new level of fear and is being panned as an independent masterpiece of horror.

The film opened to a limited release by Dreamworks, and has relied heavily on viral marketing for promotion. Paramount Pictures, launched a website campaign requiring fans to "demand it, the first ever major film release decided by you."

Because of that, over 1,000,000 people have demanded the movie be shown in their areas around the country. In response to that, Paramount and Dreamworks will launch the film nationwide on October 16th.

"From the very beginning, we put this film in the hands of the fans and we trusted them to tell us where and when it should be seen. We couldn't be more thrilled by their overwhelming support and we are happy to release the film in every town - big and small," said Rob Moore, Vice Chairman of Paramount Pictures.

The film is rated R for language and will probably require you to have a change of clothes afterward. Be prepared...

"I decided to see this film after reading a few articles about it on the web. It was quite disturbing. The camera action, reminiscent of Blair witch, made me sick. You would think this would not be so much of an issue accounting the FPS games I play, but nonetheless it took its toll on me.

The story, unfolding over a few days, was very realistic and unnerving. It is NOT a resident evil hellhounds coming out of the walls to get you type of scary. There are some moments in the film that make you jump. I think the normal population would be upset if there weren’t a few reach out and snatch you moments. This type of film stays with you, you end up recalling scenes later when you are sitting alone at home and you hear a noise. It is even more unsettling if you believe in good and evil spirits.

"Looks like this could be a really great independent movie!"

"I agree, I think this could give the horror genre, the boost that it's needed for a while now.

Too much gore and not enough scare these days..."
