The USGS has reported that a magnitude 6.0 earthquake has struck off the northern coast of California. The quake was located 35 miles west-northwest of the small town of Petrolia.

Tsunami warnings were not issued, "However, in coastal areas of intense shaking, locally generated tsunamis can be triggered by underwater landslides," Humboldt County spokesman Phil Smith-Hanes said.

No reports of damage or injuries were reported at the time of the quake, 12:20 p.m. CST.
